Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s not just a gushy-kinda-romantc love day. It’s a day to throw heart-shaped confetti in the air. Share a cupcake with your best friend. Wear the color pink from head to toe (actually, you should do that everyday). It’s the perfect day to make a handmade card for someone you care about. We hope you have a very happy Valentine’s Day – from your friends, The Girl Friends.

Valentines Day is this Saturday. When most people think of this day, they think of romantic love. But, I see Valentines day as a day to spread love. So, whether you have a significant other or not, here are some ways you can spread the love on Valentines day.
1. Make goodie bags full to treats. You can make several goodie bags filled with candy, fruit or fun trinkets. (You could also sew some little bags. See these I made a couple years ago.) Give the bags to random people, colleagues or even people that work at places you visit often (i.e grocery store, coffee shop, mall etc). We did this two years ago and it was a lot of fun! People were totally surprised and seemed to really enjoy the bags.
2. Bake cookies or sweets. Pull out your favorite cookie recipe. After you bake your tasty sweets and decorate them (we baked heart shaped cookies), give them to your neighbor, friends, co-workers, etc..
If you’re not a great baker, you can also purchase pre-made sweets to pass out.
3. Give a bag full of hearts. As an alternative to a bag full of sugary-sweets, you can always fill a bag with heart themed or valentines day items. If you’re feeling crafty, you could make a heart brooch, heart clutch, or even heart pencil toppers .
4. Provide a service. Whether it’s your neighbor, friend, grandparent, new mom, etc., everyone needs a helping hand. Whether it’s raking their leaves, putting out their garbage bin, or bringing them a meal, gifts of service are always a win, win!
5. Pay for someone’s coffee. It is always fun when you’re in the Starbuck’s line, and you go to pay for your coffee and are told that its already been paid.
6. Send Something. You can send flowers, pizza or send both. It will totally be unexpected and a treat for sure!
7. Make Something. Making something can be really fun, but you probably need to start now. Here’s a couple of sewing project ideas: heart pillows, monogram pillow, head band.
8. Be Kind. If you really want to celebrate this day to the fullest, then just be kind to everyone you meet. Pay someone an honest compliment, smile at a stranger, let a person go in front of you at the register or just encourage someone. Kindness is golden!

Valentines day is just around the corner. So, I thought I would start celebrating a little early just to get you warmed up. Have a great Thursday! And remember, you don’t have to wait until Valentines Day to spread the love.

I’m really excited to introduce to you my new fabric collection, Princess Life. This is definitely one of my favorites! It is a combination of bright, vivid blues, purples and the color that I heart the most, pink. I thought it was important to have princesses in this collection, so we’re rereleasing my Girl Friends princesses in two new colors to coordinate with this fabric collection. This fabric collection starting shipping to stores in January and is already popping up in stores online.
I think that every little girl should feel like a princess, even if it’s just for for a day. Every princess should have a castle, their own carriage, crown and their own frog that may turn into a prince (fingers crossed, wink wink). Enjoy the pictures! I can’t wait to see what you all make with this fabric collection.

Starting this month, I’m going to share with you illustrations of the Girl Friends along with a little story. So, before January is over and done with, here is my story/illustration for this month . . .
Snow days are the best! You get to sleep in, cozy up to a warm cup of hot coco and of course, play in the snow. Once bundled up and outside, you can make snow angels, build a friendly snowman or have a snow ball fight. You can even lace up your ice skates and take a twirl on the ice. Snow days are random, special days. But, the best thing about them is when you get to share them with friends.

I’m SUPER excited to share with you my new mini Urban Zoologie prints. We’ve taken many of my Urban Zoologie designs and reduced their size. I tried to take a photo that captured their mini-ness (see below). We also freshened up the collection by adding new colors, including my never-ever-gonna-end-color-crush MINT!!! And I have one . . . okay two more . . . exciting things to share about this line. More on that later. These minis ship to stores March 2015.
Several of the mini prints are identical in color to the original sized prints.

Here’s a fun little game to help you build your concentration skills. When we played this as kids they called it “The Memory Game” or “Matching Game.” We often played it with cards. This is our take on that same fun little game but we’re using fabric. We took some of our favorite remix pieces and cut them into little hexagon shapes. Download the tutorial here. (By the way, after playing the game, we realized that there is a little room to cheat, because you can see some of the colors on the side. So, you may want to make several of the same color pieces.) Anyway, it still made for a fun time!

The holidays are fast upon us, which means time with family and friends. What better way to pass time, catch up on how everyone has been doing, and make new memories than over a game of checkers. So, here is a fun tutorial that promises to help create opportunities to bond with family and friends. Whether you’re bonding by making this super cute checkerboard, or you’re bonding by playing on this super cute checker board, it promises to be loads of fun!

Happy November! We made fun placemats using my Remix prints in the placemats. A special thanks to Brooke for working with me on the placemats. We worked on six different placemat designs.
I realize that this Thanksgiving tablescape idea is a bit different from the typical warm colors you find this time of year. But, I love my pinks, yellows and blue, even in the Fall.
There’s a total of 6 FREE placemat tutorials, which you can find below.
The “Flying Geese” and “Pixelated Heart” placemats are smaller versions of the free Robert Kaufman quilt tutorials, which you can find here and here.
We kept the quilting pretty simple on all the placemats.
The placemats are also reversible! I used solids on the backs of most of them. I just love the quilting on these!
These placemats came out so bright and happy! I actually kept the table set up like this for a couple days. (I’m thinking of hanging them up on the wall, when I’m not using them).
Grab all the free tutorials below!
